What’s the difference between a driver’s license that’s been suspended vs REVOKED?

drivers license reinstatement ann arbor michigan

There are some major differences! Driver’s license
suspensions usually result from: accumulation of points, unpaid tickets, low-level criminal and driving offenses, and outstanding warrants/defaults. Driver’s license revocations usually result from serious criminal/driving offenses, including repeat drunk driving offenses.

Suspended licenses often have a starting and ending point, and driver’s license reinstatement is often rather easy – wait until eligible, pay a reinstatement fee, and return to the road. Driver’s licenses that have been revoked are much different – there’s no ending point (only an eligibility date), and typically the license reinstatement is very difficult. You must accumulate paperwork, submit it to the Secretary of State, and then you must testify in front of a Hearing Judge to prove you deserve your license back.
